Swim Lessons

Organized Group Swim Lessons at Valley Brook will follow the American Red Cross Lessons Program which offers something for all ages and levels. The ages listed within each level below are to provide guidance however each swimmer is different and will develop skills at their own pace.

Each swimmer will be required to master all skills within a level to advance to the next level. A checklist will be completed and provided to the swimmer at the end of each swim lesson program to let the swimmer know what skills to work on during the summer. In some cases swimmers may advance or be moved to the appropriate lower level upon evaluation during the first lesson. Registration is only available on-line via the button at the top of this page. Parents are encouraged when filling out the registration to place their swimmer(s) in the appropriate level regardless of age.

Level 1 – Tadpole - Introduction to Water Skills – Age: 3-4+
For the beginner who is somewhat comfortable in the water. Swimmers learn basics of swimming: bobbing, going under water, supported front and back floating, supported rolling over from front to back and back to front, supported gliding , supported flutter kick, supported front crawl arms and jumping in.

Level 2 – Guppy - Fundamental Aquatic Skills – Age: 4-5+
Swimmers should already be able to float on front and back and put head under water. Swimmers will work on: independent front and back floating , independent rolling over from front to back and back to front, independent front and back glides, front crawl arms and kicks, back crawl arms and kicks, retrieving underwater objects, and jumping into water over their head.

Level 3 – Minnow - Stroke Development – Age: 5-6+
Swimmers should already be comfortable swimming front stroke and swimming on their back. Swimmers will work on: gliding, freestyle with side breathing, backstroke, breast stroke and dolphin kicks, retrieving objects in deeper water, treading water, jumping into deep water and compact dives.

Level 4 – Barracuda!- Stroke Improvement – Age: 7+
Swimmers should already be able to: swim front and back crawl 25 yards. Swimmers will work on: rotary breathing, freestyle, backstroke, elementary backstroke, scissors kick and sidestroke, whip kick and breaststroke, intro to turning at wall, treading water with modified scissors, and diving in kneeling position. NOTE: Anyone at or above the Barracuda Level should be on the SWIM TEAM!

In the past our sessions were 2 weeks.  This year, we are going to give you more flexibility by offering 1 week sessions!  We HIGHLY recommend signing up for at least 2 sessions, but this way you can choose 1 week of evenings and 1 week of mornings OR the same time both weeks. 

Group Lessons: $40 for members, $50 for non-members per weekly session.
$5 discount applied for multiple children or multiple sessions.

Lessons will be the weeks of June 4-8, 11-15, and 18-22.
  -  Morning sessions will be 4 lessons per week (M, T, W, Th) for 30 mins each (11:30 am -12:00 pm).
  -  Evening sessions will be 3 lessons per week (M,W,F) for 45 mins each (6:00-6:45 pm)

Please sign up each child individually so you can select the appropriate level. Payment for all children can be combined in one check, but include names of all children in memo on your check.

Individual Lessons: $15 per 30 minutes.

Individual Lesson registration forms are available at the front desk or contact the pool manager or a staff member directly if interested. Lessons can be arranged around the staff member schedule anytime during pool operating hours.
